    IIASA Regional Conference "Systems Analysis in Asia" successfully held

    The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) Regional Conference "Systems Analysis in Asia" was successfully held from 20-22 October 2021 as a hybrid event, combining online and in-person attendance.

    The physical part of the meeting was hosted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China. Prof. Xie Xincheng, Vice President of the NSFC and Prof. Albert van Jaarsveld, IIASA Director General delivered opening remarks online. Prof. Fu Bojie, the Science Advisory Committee member of IIASA attended the physical meeting in Beijing and addressed the opening speech.

     

    With the support from the Japan Committee for IIASA, the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), the Iran National Science Foundation (INSF), and the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) of India, more than 100 researchers from China, Japan, Korea, India, Iran, and IIASA joined this hybrid event and discussed the following topics: Harnessing the Power of Systems Analysis, Regional Application of Systems Analysis, Integrated Approaches to the Sustainable Development Goals, The Land-Water-Energy-Biodiversity Nexus, Energy transition, Towards a Sustainable Future in Asia, and Urban Growth and Megacities: The Path towards Urban Resilience in Asia.

     

    Founded in 1972, IIASA conducts policy-oriented research into problems of a global nature that are too large or too complex to be solved by a single country or academic discipline. From 2021, IIASA will embark on a new strategy to develop and apply systems science to support transformations to sustainability. NSFC has been a National Member Organization of IIASA since 2002.

     

    Director General Zou Liyao, Deputy Director General Zhang Yongtao from the Bureau of International Cooperation attended this event.
